Dear Pistol Ultra Entrant,

We are super excited that you are joining (or returning to) The Pistol Ultra family! The Pistol is fully loaded and registration has closed. In less than 3 weeks, you will be rocking the race course on the Alcoa/Maryville Greenway Trail in Alcoa, TN. Woo-hoo!

This is the second of several email blasts covering random topics. It’s lengthy, so grab your favorite beverage and a chair for a few.

If you didn’t receive the first update, it is posted on the website: www.pistolultra.com/entrant-letters

This item is huge! This event would not be possible without all our incredible volunteers. It takes over 200 to successfully put this charity fundraiser event on. And we DESPERATELY need LOTS more! PLEASE, please encourage anyone you can to come help, including your family members, crew, etc. Many runners also volunteer before and/or after they run. We need lots of help to support all you runners.NEW! We have a financial incentive program for non-profit groups to volunteer (10 or more required) and raise money for their group. Email volunteer@pistolultra.com for details. All volunteers score some really cool swag too! Here's the link to sign-up: www.pistolultra.com/volunteers A big thanks!

If you haven't checked out the main Facebook page, you're missing a lot! https://www.facebook.com/ThePistolUltra

Also, we have a Facebook Group page. It's a great place to ask questions and share info:
https://www.facebook.com/groups/685001561573974

If you still need to purchase meal tickets for the Friday pasta dinner, do so by 12-17-16. Click here: https://ultrasignup.com/shopping.aspx?did=38611 There will be a very limited supply of tickets available at check-in Friday.

Check this out! During the prerace mini-expo, you will have a unique chance to snag a really cool custom made high quality belt lovingly and meticulously hand crafted by one of our own Pistolers, Robert Eichen. He even has the Pistol logo he can emboss on there for you. (Pictures are posted in the FB Group.) We have asked him to make them available onsite to all our Pistolers this year. Preorders are available at any time between now and December 20 for pick up at the race expo. A limited selection of plain belts will be available at the race expo for same day purchase as well as taking custom orders. A portion of the presale proceeds will be donated back to the race charities. For more info, pricing, payment terms, and to order, contact Robert directly at recknives@gmail.com

We’ve got some cool swag for you again this year! Keep in mind that some of it is only for those registered for a certain distance. Some is size specific and available in limited quantities. So if you check-in early, you should be golden. And if you don’t...well, you may not have to worry as much about getting it all to fit in your luggage!

If you are one of those “crazy” Double Barrel runners, you will need to go through both distance specific check-ins first, then go through general swag line.

For those of you running only the 50 miler, and are not arriving in time for regular check-in (Friday 3-6 PM or Sat 6:30-7:30), please check in at the Finishers Awards area inside the school between 7-7:45 PM prior to the 8 PM Saturday start.

If you are not in the starting wave when the starter’s gun fires, and decide to start late, you MUST check in with an official at the timing booth BEFORE crossing (or coming within 6’ of) any timing mats. Really bad things may happen otherwise. So bad we can’t even mention it here!☺

Please study the Start/Finish - Parking Area Map closely as there are only certain places you will be allowed to park, depending on what distance you are running. Remember, you may be arriving in the dark, so be prepared. If you are coming in an RV, please note the only location available for you to park. First come, first served: www.pistolultra.com/startfinish-area-parking-map

Bib numbers were assigned and ordered Dec 4th. Here’s the live link for those registered at that time. Any of you that registered since then will be added just prior to the event. http://my.raceresult.com/64491/

Remember that per TN State law, NO alcoholic beverages or guns (excluding the race starter’s pistol) are allowed on school property. Thank you in advance for your compliance.

Be sure to use #PistolUltra to share and track all the race happenings across social platforms.

Both courses (mile and metric) have changed slightly and been USATF and IAAF/AIMS (international) certified. If you have run this event before, it is not the exactly the same. Be sure to follow the markings (not the person in front of you). Otherwise you may get some extra mileage. And no, we don’t have an extra mileage award!

Official timing for all distances are based on gun times. If you want to place, consider starting at the front.

PLEASE, encourage all your family and other non-runner friends to stay in the crowd support areas and not venture out onto the course at the Start/Finish area. Human collisions are not pretty!

Hopefully it won’t monsoon this year, but if there is flooding under the bridges, you may have to CAREFULLY go over the roadway overpass above. But please, be EXTREMELY careful due to traffic flying by at 40+ mph. Especially at nighttime, as they won’t see you.

Sometimes, no matter how well we prepare and how hard we try, things don’t always work out the way we want. If you find no matter how hard you try, you won’t be able to finish the 50 Mile, 100K or 100 mile distance you’re signed up for, you can drop down during the event. Simply notify an official in the timing tent (NOT a volunteer). Upon finishing that distance, you will receive a finishers visor and shirt and an official time. See the website for more specific details

A PLEA! As you can imagine, I am EXTREMELY busy preparing for 500 of you runners who will be coming. If you have questions, search the website (there is a search box on the top right) or check the FB pages or ask the FB group. If you can’t find the answer, then and only then email me. (Email...NOT Facebook, Tweet, text, or IM). I will try to answer if I can. Don’t be upset if it takes me a day or two and/or if I am very brief.. And after Christmas, I may not be able to respond at all. And PLEASE! Don’t call unless absolutely necessary. Many people think it’s easier for them to call or email/message me rather than look up the answer on their own. There just aren’t enough hours in the day and night for me to do that. I already am sometimes only getting 3 hours sleep/night working to get The Pistol party ready for you. Thanks for your understanding and cooperation.

Changes of any kind after Sunday, December 25 must be made at check-in. The numerous documents we make to handle all the details are going to press at that time. And yes, we will be working again all Christmas day getting this ready for y’all. Why? ‘Cause we love you so much! ☺

Last and certainly not least. We are deeply grateful for our sponsors. Without them, this event would not happen as it does. Please thank and support them. (Names are hyperlinked, please use these links as some of them are tracked.)

First and foremost is our presenting partner, Quest Therapy Consultants

We are very grateful for them and the support they have already given and especially will give you during the entire 30 hour race. Please be sure to go by their booth, say “Hi” and tell them how much you appreciate them. Beside their individual therapies, they will also have the awesome NormaTec recovery system there available for you runners. Talk about white glove treatment! Y’all are gonna be totally spoiled!

We are also very thankful for the rest of our awesome sponsors:
